Robert “Rocky” Gonet of Ann Arbor, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, passed at home on November 20, 2019. A pillar to the community, he was a social worker and educator for over three decades. His passion and creativity live on through his art. He captured the people and places he loved through the lens of his camera. Preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Anna Gonet, and his sister, Gail Gonet. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, his children, Rocky Jr, Joshua Barnes, Kalynn, Nicolas, and his beloved dog, Chester.

He was our rock. He was the kindest and most generous person, with a warm smile and genuine heart. Nothing and no one will ever be able to fill the void he left in our world. He touched the lives of everyone he met with his easy and out going manner. He loved life, he loved people, and he loved places and he sought to share that with the world through his camera. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 1-5 pm at the Nie Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rocky's honor to the Humane Society of Huron Valley (3100 Cherry Hill Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105).

If I would let it, my heart would unleash and rush down the storm sewer into the river. How can you say goodbye to someone who felt like a beginning every time you saw them -- whose own heart was so big, it burst into the room like June sun, the moment you know winter is really over? Rocky was like that. He filled up the space around him with light. Rocky loved people, he loved this broken world. I will always think of him taking his dog down to the woods to walk, getting up before dawn to photograph the day starting over again. His laugh, his hope, his way of focusing on the good in life…that was his gift.

I'm so happy that Rocky, Michael Smith, and I went out for a beer two days ago. Rocky was good humored as usual and I would never have guessed that when we walked to his car and said goodby it would be the last time I would see him. Rocky was one of my good friends for many years and I will miss him terribly. So sad. My condolences go out to all his family and friends.

I met Rocky about a month 1/2 ago, he captured our daughter Alexia's Senior Pictures on October 15th. He was a very nice man, and a great photographer! I just met with him last Friday 11/15 to pick the pictures up. We are so shocked and very sad to hear this news, we looked forward to finishing our shoot with him for cap and gown(Amazing photographer)! Please accept our heart felt condolences during this very difficult time. J. Easley
