Obituary

Obituary for Patty Jo Gagalis

Pat Gagalis passed away on September 3, 2019. Born in Ann Arbor to Frederick and Margaret (Mynning) Wadhams on September 11, 1934, the last of four children.

Pat grew up on the west side of Ann Arbor and has many fond memories. Pat married Peri Gagalis in 1956 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and together they had a wonderful 63 year marriage. She was proud to be able to stay at home and raise her family. She returned to work at the Washtenaw County Register of Deeds office retiring in 1999 after 15 years. She had many hobbies including real estate, decorating and gardening. Her family recipes were legendary and she always enjoyed cooking them for others or for any event she attended. She enjoyed Sunday drives with Peri to find out what was going on around town. She enjoyed entertaining and her home was the meeting place. Some of her friends thought she would have made a great town historian given her passion for detail. She took advice from few but was more generous about giving it out. Her grace and style will be truly missed.

She is survived by her children, Judy, George and Jeff; and beloved grandson, Alexander Mills; as well as sister-in law, Jean Gagalis; and 23 nieces and nephews. Pat is predeceased by her mother and father; husband, Peri; and her siblings, Shirley Marshall-Rose, Warren Wadhams and Mervin “Pougie” Wadhams.

A memorial celebrating her life will take place sometime in October.

We just recently learned of the passing of Patty. She was my mom's first cousin, and my mom thought the world of Patty. They stayed in touch up until the time of Mom's death in 2012, and their conversations were always fun to listen in to as they shared childhood memories. I believe Patty was the only contact we had with the Wadhams family, and that in itself is a loss. Our prayers to all of her family.
