Obituary

Obituary for Kenneth B.C. Jensen

Kenneth B.C. Jensen passed away peacefully in his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan on October 8, 2019. He was 88 years old and lived a full and vibrant life. Ken was born on May 14, 1931, in Hagerstown, Maryland to Bruno and Alice (Marker) Jensen. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland and moved to Michigan in the 1950s, eventually making Ann Arbor his home. In the early 60s, Ken married Erika Miroschnitschenko and the following year, had their only child, Eric. In the late 50s and 60s, Ken worked for Ford and Bendix while investing in real estate near the University of Michigan. In the early 70s, he became a full-time landlord and expanded his real estate investments to nearby cities. After his divorce in the early 80s, Ken and Jill Warren, his partner of 37 years, moved into their new home and lived together until his passing. From a very young age, Ken knew he wanted to see the world. He traveled to more than 60 countries in his lifetime. Ken loved to drive and took many road trips to places which most people would never consider driving. In the early 80s, Ken drove his favorite car, a Datsun 280ZX, to the southern tip of South America (Tierra del Fuego) and to the northern tip of Norway (North Cape) - the southernmost and northernmost points in the world to which a person can drive. Some other favorite destinations included Alaska, Europe, Mexico, Nova Scotia, South Africa, visiting his father’s family in Denmark and seeing old friends and classmates in his hometown of Hagerstown, Maryland. After every trip, Ken looked forward to returning to Ann Arbor to spend time with his friends and get back to his daily routine. He enjoyed going to several restaurants around town, where he knew all the staff and they knew him. His favorite part of the day was meeting with friends for conversation, coffee and a few laughs, a daily routine their group had been doing for more than 50 years. His quick wit and sense of humor broke down barriers and made people feel at ease. The only thing Ken enjoyed more than laughing, was to make other people laugh. Ken enjoyed cars and everything about them. He enjoyed driving them, staying current on the latest makes and models and discussing the latest designs. He often went to the Detroit Auto Show, visited local dealerships and he always had a large stack of car magazines handy. Ken was respected by and respectful of others. He was worldly, yet humble. A kind and gentle man, loved by everyone.

Ken is survived by his son, Eric; daughter-in-law, D’Anna; granddaughter, Aleah; grandson, Kyle and partner, Jill Warren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Bruno and his sister, Linda.

Family, friends and others who knew Ken, are invited to the Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday, October 19, 2019. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11 a.m. which will be immediately followed by a procession to Bethlehem Cemetery, Ann Arbor, Michigan, where interment will take place. A gathering of Ken’s friends and family to celebrate Ken’s life will follow the interment.
