Obituary for John A. Cummings

John Arthur Cummings, age 94, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

He was born on February 23, 1925 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and raised in the city with his nine siblings. While working at the University of Michigan Laundry Department he met Leona M. Holcomb. After only three months of dating they married in Ann Arbor on November 20, 1946 and had three children: Dianne, John, and Ron. John continued working at the University as a truck driver until 1984 when he transferred to the moving department and remained there until his retirement on July 30, 1986. John enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, and euchre. However, he enjoyed spending time with his family the most.

John is survived by his children, Dianne Holloway and Ron (Lin Mohr) Cummings; his grandchildren: Brian (Barbara) Cummings, Jeremy Jon Cummings Serra, and Christopher (Amanda Gee) Cummings; his great-grandchild, Carter Gee Cummings; his brother, Robert (Carolyn) Cummings; his brother-in-law’s, Alvin and Jerry Holcomb; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Leona M. Cummings; his son, John L. Cummings; and his seven sisters: Bessie, Iritta, May, Alta, Flora, Beatrice, and Doris; and his brother, William Cummings.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr.,Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

A private graveside service will be held in the fall at Washtenong Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial dinner for family and friends will follow.
