Obituary

Obituary for Jaz'Lynne "Jazzy" Stafford

On September 13, 2019, after a brief illness, God kissed Jaz’Lynne Denea Stafford and presented her with her angel wings. She fought courageously and spent her final days enveloped in the love of numerous family and friends.

She was born the second of six beautiful children to Marty and Pamela Stafford on May 22, 2005 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jaz’Lynne was a member of the freshman class at Pioneer High School and although she only attended school for four days, she experienced the joys of her first “Freshman Friday” and varsity football game.

Jaz’Lynne, or “Jazzy” as she was fondly called, was a free spirit with a disarming and infectious smile. She enjoyed wearing crazy colors, sporting that curly ‘fro and eating cookies, butter pecan ice cream and pineapples right out of the can.

She was a loving and patient sister who delighted in cooking, K-Pop and combing her siblings’ hair. Her gourmet specialty was noodles and meatballs and she was known for the asymmetrical (lopsided) ponytails she devotedly created. Jazzy Fresh often choreographed dance routines which she and her sisters performed for family and friends. Technically she was a member of the “Rhythmless Nation”, but she wasn’t deterred. She didn’t dance like nobody was watching. She danced like she didn’t care if anybody was watching!

Jaz’Lynne was a remarkable young lady who stood out in a crowd. She stood out not only because of her 6-foot, statuesque frame, but also for her lighthearted and gentle countenance. She had an incredible sense of self that belied her fourteen years. She knew she was awesome in a way not marked by arrogance or conceit. She had the kind of confidence that is cultivated by the vigilance and unconditional love of a family and she knew the possibilities for her future were limitless. Jaz’Lynne even toyed with the idea of following in her father’s footsteps and going into the Construction field. She may not have known exactly what she wanted to become, but the one thing of which she was certain was that she was going to be a Michigan Wolverine. She had a keen interest in Black History and Women’s Equality as was demonstrated by the swift punch to the face she administered to a boy who tried to steal a kiss at the school dance (much to her parents’ secret delight).

Jaz’Lynne Denea Stafford was born out of love, exuded love and inspired others to love. Quite simply, Jazzy was LOVE and she will be eternally missed by those whose lives she touched.
Jaz’Lynne was preceded in death by her grandfather, Mark David Stafford; and her uncle, James Richmond.

She is survived by her parents, Marty and Pamela Stafford (Ann Arbor, MI); her four sisters, Brittany Daniels (Hunter Rahm) (Toledo, OH), Zahara Stafford, Nenah Stafford, Nalah Stafford; her brother, Mason Stafford; her Nana, Ruth Daniels; her Grandma, Bonnie Stafford; her grandmother, Marla Manns; her niece, Parker Rahm; her uncles, Matt Stafford (Amy) and Mitchell Stafford; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She is also survived by her chosen family, The Carlton Family, The Stoermer Family, The Hopkins Family, The Tolbert Family, Alexandria Miller, Emma Jean Manns, Lily Abshire, Aaliyah Brown, Jalivia Winters, “auntie” Tamber McPike (godmother) and Uncle Jordan McPike-Brown.

The Stafford Family would also like to give a special acknowledgement of thanks to the following angels on earth for their compassionate care and unwavering support: University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital Staff (ER, PICU, Child Life Services, Social Work, Security, Housekeeping and Support Staff), Gift of Life, Global Tech Academy Family, and The Ann Arbor Public Schools Family.
