Obituary

Obituary for Carla K. Key

Carla Kristine Key, 59, passed away on September 4th, 2019 after a heroic 14-month long battle with Pancreatic cancer. She was born in Pontiac, Michigan to Richard Glenn and Billie Iris Chatterton. Carla graduated from Tremper High School where she was an alto-saxophone player in the Marching Band. Carla held a Ph.D. in parenting from the Schools of Richard, Thomas and Jordan; as well as a Master’s Degree in Puppy Love with a concentration on English Springer Spaniels. Carla is survived by her three children, Richard Davidson Key, Thomas Spencer Key, and Jordan Elizabeth Key; her parents, Richard Glenn and Billie Iris Chatterton; her brother, Thomas Chatterton (Susan); her sister, Sharon Chatterton; her nieces, Cherokee Chatterton and Madison Walker; her nephew, Grant Chatterton; her father and mother-in-law, Jesse Clyde and Phyllis Rightmire Key; her sister-in-law, Meredith Soles (Michael Scott); and her daughter-in-law, Evamarie Grace Key. Carla was preceded in death by her adoring husband, David Carlton Key; and her loving older sister, Cynthia Davis (Chatterton).

To celebrate her life, a visitation will be held from 4:00-5:00 pm on Sunday September 8th, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, MI, and will be followed by a funeral service at 5:00 pm. Interment will be at the Joines Family Cemetery, Whitehead, North Carolina at 11:00 am on Wednesday September 11th, 2019.

Carla was an endearing mother and widow who passionately loved her family and touched anyone who entered her life. Carla was a relentless and determined fighter that battled an impossible diagnosis with the utmost bravery. Carla’s love for her husband, children, and dogs was endless; her loss has devastated us and broken our hearts, but her determination and will has inspired us. We will continue to make her proud because we were blessed to have been raised by a mother without comparison. Mom, we love you with all of our hearts and are so thankful to have been your children. Please watch over us, we love you Mom.
