Obituary

Obituary for Betty Lou DeWolf (Scovill)

BETTY LOU (SCOVILL) DEWOLF passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the age of 87 in Ann Arbor, Michigan following a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. She was surrounded by her husband of 68 years and their children.

Betty was born on January 22, 1932 to Harold and Lucille Scoville in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She married Robert L. DeWolf on June 30, 1951. They bought a small 3 bedroom, one bath house in the Ann Arbor neighborhood of Dixboro in 1953. They raised 5 children there and remained in that home for more than 60 years,

Betty is survived by 4 children: Robert L. DeWolf, Jr. (Char) of Grosse Pointe, Michigan; Dan DeWolf (Kerry) of McDonough, Georgia; Lori DeWolf Sievert (Jeff) of Beaverton, Oregon; and Linda DeWolf Chestnut (Doug) of Sterling, Virginia. Debbi DeWolf Whittaker (Donn) of Minneapolis, Minnesota predeceased her. Betty is also survived by five grandchildren: Scott DeWolf (Shannon) of Plano, Texas; Beth DeWolf Cunnane (Tim) of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan; Michael Chestnut of Washington, D.C.; Eric Chestnut of Iowa City Iowa; and Erin DeWolf Smith of McDonough, Georgia. She is also survived by 6-great-grandchildren.

Betty was a lifelong member of Dixboro Church and worked at the University of Michigan for 28 years. She was also a ballet and tap teacher, a Cub Scout Leader, a 4-H Leader and a runner.

Betty loved her family, Christmas and Michigan football. She taught her grandchildren that there was no such thing as too much frosting and she could talk Michigan football strategy with authority. She always wished Bo Schembechler would listen to her. She loved having family BBQ’s because BBQ’s always led to playing cards and the dominos game of Mexican Train (although she sometimes cheated a little). She was a powerhouse, a tiny little woman who always had room for one more at her dinner table and in her heart, especially if they liked to play games, or as her children called it, Forced Family Fun.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Dixboro United Methodist Church, 5221 Church Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 48105. Cremation has taken place and she will be interred in a private family service next to her daughter Debbi.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dixboro United Methodist Church.

Betty and Bob were both solid members of the Dixboro community. They could always be counted on to help anyone at the church.

Betty and husband Bob were the number one fans of each other. She thought he was the greatest; he thought she was the greatest. Perhaps I am unique because I was blessed to be taught by both in Sunday School at Dixboro UMC at different points in my life. No two finer Christian people that were love with other. At the Dixboro Scout Cabin Reunion in 2013.
